Valerie Bertinelli was born in Willington Delamere to Andrew and Nancy Bertinelli. Her father is of Italian origin, and her mother is English; she has three brothers, Patrick, Drew, and David. Her family moved around a lot because of her father’s business, including Delaware, Louisiana, Oklahoma City, Claymont, Los Feliz, Shreveport, and Michigan.

Bertinelli studied acting at the Tami Lyn School of Artists in California while residing there. She went to Granada High School and was raised in a catholic household.
